Definition

My background is in dance… Now I work in the field of performance, visual arts, and writing.

Approaches

I have worked in a collective called Me and My Friends which consists of actors and dancers, choreographers, and a musician and a graphic designer who also did the costumes and set design. We’ve made two pieces together and that was very much created so that no one really had a specific role, we were just all making it as a group. Even the musician was doing all the improvisation with us, he didn’t come in later or something — we were all on the floor working.
Writing has always been a very big part of my stage pieces, there is usually quite a lot of text and also the visual aspect has always been important to me.

Learning

I always think it’s really important that any element like music and set design is there from the beginning of the rehearsal period, especially set design… I think nothing really new can happen unless you have these elements from day one and then you can really explore them and get something new out of them.
